Dear AIESEC alumni,

Now back home, I would like to take this opportunity to update you on our spectacular 2013 AIESEC Alumni International Congress, held in Vienna during October 10-12, which we believe will be seen as a milestone event in AAI’s history.

In addition to the wonderful time we had connecting and reconnecting with alumni from Austria and from around the world, we reinforced our consensus and passed sweeping legislation on our path to unleashing AIESEC’s global alumni potential, as follows:

  • Broad support and formal agreement for the strategic and operational direction of AAI in our discussions that were facilitated by this presentation.
  • Approval of AAI’s 2014 budget, that reflects the anticipated launch of a global office, to be staffed by an Executive Director and a small team.
  • Approval for the Executive Board to enter into partnership agreements with AIESEC International and with national and regional alumni associations, which will include the rollout of integrated membership.
  • The offering of a non-voting seat on the AAI Executive Board to the presidents of Regional Alumni Associations with which AAI has signed a partnership agreement, to promote global integration.
  • Approval for the AAI Executive Board to form a Nominations Committee to prepare the next Executive Board elections (Mexico City in March ’14) to ensure that the strongest possible successor Executive Board will carry forward the AAI Transformation Project.
  • To promote continuity, the board terms for newly elected EB members starting in March 2014 will be extended to 3 years with staggered terms, so that 1/3 of the EB will be re-elected or replaced each year.
  • The enabling of electronic voting, starting at our next Congress, which will ensure that every AAI member worldwide has a voice in AAI’s governance.
  • Formal launch of the AAI Seed Fund, a fundraising campaign with a goal of €300,000 to fund the completion of AlumNet, a small office and for working capital.  More than €60,000 was committed in Vienna.
  • The setting of AAI’s 2014 membership fee at €25, plus special multiyear packages that may be offered by the Executive Board.

We have many people to thank, starting with our Chairperson, Aniko Magasházi (who, against all odds, made sure we got through our lengthy agenda in the allotted time), Philippe Raxhon (who expertly prepared and presented our many legislative motions), Ken Phillips and his working group (who developed game-changing governance proposals), AIESEC Alumni Austria and their conference OC (for their hard work to put together such a memorable event and for their warm hospitality), Susanne Pfeuffer (for her tireless coordination behind the scenes), Irma Bejdic (for her moving speech), Hugo Preciado (for laying the groundwork for Mexico City ’14) and to the dozens of other very distinguished alumni who participated actively at this important event.

Please stay tuned for important updates on our next steps, for which we will need your support, and mark your calendars for AAI Congress in Mexico City in March 2014… details are coming soon!

AIESECly,
David Epstein
President, AIESEC Alumni International
on behalf of our Executive Board and Management Team
