AlumNite of the Month: AIESEC Manila

ALUMnite of the Month for July 2015 has been awarded to AIESEC Alumni Philippines and its Manila chapterAIESEC Alumni Philippines, part of the AIESEC Alumni Asia-Pacific region, has an outstanding track record, being one of the strongest active alumni communities in the world.

AIESEC Alumni Philippines was one of the pioneers in Asia to implement ALUMnites (previously known as thirstdays and First Thursday) in early 2012.  The community is the home of the first A-Group ever.  Now an adopted flagship AAI program, A-Groups was championed by the late Rollie Gosiengfiao.

In addition to its other great accomplishments, AA Philippines has now reached another milestone by bringing the International Start-up Meeting (ISUM) to Asia-Pacific for the first time.

ISUManila 2015 was held July 10-11 at the Impact Hub in Makati City. The event was attended by 108 delegates representing eight countries, including the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Japan, Italy, Hong Kong, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Participants were between the ages of 16 and 57. A diverse mix of students, professionals, founders, and investors represented various industries such as technology, retail, food & beverage, education, social enterprise, consulting, and non-governmental organizations. For alumni and delegates in attendance, it was a unique opportunity to network with startups, SMEs, investors, mentors, and aspiring entrepreneurs.

This was a great example of how the ALUMnite concept can be used, fostering synergies with different AA programs, starting signature programs that create ongoing engagement and value for alumni, and increasing our ability to deliver high-quality programs and services to the alumni community.

Many alumni are already meeting on a regular basis in cities around the world, and we know that many more would participate if they knew when and where to go. If there is no event in your city yet, it’s up to you to step forward and organize one! We have created a Best Practices Manual to help you out.
